Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

After using GNOME for a length of time, the extended/multimedia keys on
my keyboard will stop working. The problem can be remedied by logging
out and back in again which leads me to believe it's a problem with
GNOME rather than the kernel.

I'm using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.
