I haven't had any problems personally from trackerd in quite a while. I've done a few fresh Ubuntu installations since this bug report.
Indexing files is probably better for privacy than automatically adding meta-data to the files themselves. I've seen the latter suggested so that users could benefit from the meta-data of files from other users, but it sounds bad for privacy. Still, any time data is generated, even if it's only meta-data, derivative of data which already exists, data which you chose to interact with, it can become a privacy concern, like your browser history or cache, or your log files. It would be nice if such features as provided by trackerd were balanced by documentation which which explains what kind of data is being indexed, how to easily disable it, or to set a time period for the data to expire. Tracker is licensed under the GNU GPL? If so, I call it Free Software. Nowhere in the preamble of the GPL is "open source" mentioned. -- trackerd uses up all available memory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214219 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
