I haven't had any problems personally from trackerd in quite a while.
I've done a few fresh Ubuntu installations since this bug report.

Indexing files is probably better for privacy than automatically adding
meta-data to the files themselves. I've seen the latter suggested so
that users could benefit from the meta-data of files from other users,
but it sounds bad for privacy.

Still, any time data is generated, even if it's only meta-data,
derivative of data which already exists, data which you chose to
interact with, it can become a privacy concern, like your browser
history or cache, or your log files.

It would be nice if such features as provided by trackerd were balanced
by documentation which which explains what kind of data is being
indexed, how to easily disable it, or to set a time period for the data
to expire.

Tracker is licensed under the GNU GPL? If so, I call it Free Software.
Nowhere in the preamble of the GPL is "open source" mentioned.
