Oh I could if I used desktop 8.04 install in live cd mode, but I have corrected the problelm by coping ati-driver-installer-8-11-x86.x86_run or ati-driver-installer-8-12-x86.x86_run with the 8.04 desktop cd in live mode to the home folder, and running it from the the recover mode and selectin root prompt. Installing the driver and then aticonfig --initial. This is also required at every update with a new kernel as well. To do what you have requested requires me to delete my repaired and working Ubuntu with kernel 2.26.27.11 The video card is a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 256 MB memory.
