The dmesg is from an install of Ubuntu Studio 8.0.4 amd64, on which I have not made a major attempt to wifi.
I got similar wifi results with Hardy from canonical. In fact, the same results from all I've installed (UBStudio 8.0.4/8.10 i386 & amd64, Hardy i386). The only period wifi worked was when I first took the laptop out of the box from Dell with whatever they had loaded for Hardy. Unfortunately, I did not look at anything about the out-of-box install because it worked and I was unaware that Dell did anything special. I have not attempted to install the Ubuntu CD that came from Dell...it looks just like what canonical sends. I also don't know about "oops" could you educate me please? I'm off to google it now. I noticed in your dmesg listing that you have a kernel oops that may be related to the -rt flavour. It is likely the reason that wireless isn't working. You cannot depend on anything working correctly after an oops. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => linux Assignee: (unassigned) => Tim Gardner (timg-tpi) Status: New => In Progress -- Dell n-series won't wifi after reload of Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318219 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. It was then wiped and vanilla hardy Ubuntu Studio 8.04 was installed. Since then wifi doesn't work, I've tried a variety of stuff from a variety of forums and such to no avail. The PC shows the wap and the wap log says the pc connected. But the pc can't access the wap (ping) or the network beyond the wap, intranet/internet. Other pc (windowsxp) accesses wap/internet fine. No dhcp involved, fixed ip inuse. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web LIVE Free email based on Microsoft® Exchange technology - http://link.mail2web.com/LIVE -- Dell n-series won't wifi after reload of Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318219 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
