** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I can reproduce a feeze with Ubuntu 8.10 upgraded from 8.04. It's reproduceable following these steps: 1. open firefox 2. go on bookmarks 3. find a bookmarks folder, click on it and drag&drop it in another position of the bookmarks drop down menu. 4. everything freezes, I can just move the mouse but I canno close any X applications etc. But I can ctrl+alt+f1, log in as my user and kill firefox. Then ctrl+alt+f7 and I can use X again. While I'm on the shell 'top' says that X uses 60% of mem while firefox 40%. The bug isn't happening only with firefox, but randomly also when I use the terminal-server-client app. I suppose it's a problem with the popup menus displayed, and for some reasons they make everything freezing. Monitoring the system usage with 'top' I see an huge cpu usage by the Xorg process. This is even true when using Netbeans. It's almost unusable and slow because of this problem. I'm attaching now some infos of my system. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82865G/PE/P DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface [8086:2570] (rev 02) + Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:12bc] + 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2572] (rev 02) + Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:12bc]
