I was subscribed to bug #303921 , and the solution that was presented there not only solved that problem, but also this problem!
The solution that worked for me was to disable "Locate Pointer" in System --> Preferences --> Mouse. I have no idea why that setting has anything to do with this, but disabling it worked perfectly for me...
