It's ok, I think you just misunderstood the wiki instructions.  It was
giving you an example of what to do, and used the "yelp" package as an
example.  What you want to do is this:

sudo apt-get install pidgin-dbg

*Close pidgin if it is currently running, then type the following:
gdb pidgin 2>&1 | tee gdb-pidgin.txt
handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint
set pagination 0
run

* Reproduce your issue to crash the pidgin, and then finish the trace by typing:
backtrace full
info registers
thread apply all backtrace
quit

Once all done, attach the gdb-pidgin.txt file
