** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

A couple of days ago I upgraded to the new xserver-xorg-video-radeon
and ati libraries (0ubuntu2.1). Immediately after that my graphic
interface (3D, open drivers) crashed. I am not only talking about a
black screen, but actually about a "monitor black-out": the EIZO led
gets orange instead of blue the moment after the ubuntu progression bar
completes and just before the log in screen -and thats all, no video, no
graphics, no monitor, nothing. Failsafe lets me just go to the root
  console.

My video card is an ATI Χ1300 / 256 and I use 8.10.

To make my graphic interface work again, I had to downgrade through
console to the previous versions (0ubuntu2) of both the above mentioned
  libraries.
+
+ Edit: I have a fresh system and I have not changed my xorg.conf.
