Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-themes
I originally set up Ubuntu 7.04 from a distribution CD on an ACER AMD Turion 64 laptop as a dual boot with Windows Xp. Generally I'm using Ubuntu Linux and not the Windows CD. When Ubuntu Linux 8.04 came out, I attempted to upgrade via the update manager. The update choked on an error associated with gnome-themes. I re-ran the update and had a similar error, but was able to finish out the update to 8.04. I was able to achieve a stable system. However, upon running any update with the synaptic package manager, update manager or APT-GET there was always an error with configuring the gnome-themes package leading to it not being configured and always affecting gnome- desktop-environment and ubuntu-desktop. The error generally seemed to be related to the icon cache, specifically an undefined symbol: inflateInit_, usually associated with gtk-update-icon-cache. A typical examples for 8.04 are below. Below the 8.04 examples are the the same basic package configuration failures reported during an attempt to clear this problem by upgrading to 8.10.
