I don't think it is not a darkroom problem, it is a problem with the
applications.

Similar behaviour can be found on "submit" & "cancel" buttons on  several 
websites such as mediatemple admin.
This is because the designer of the software/website changed the default colour 
of the widget without specifing explicit background/foreground colour. If you 
specify a foreground colour, you also need to specify a background colour and 
vice versa.

This is application design mistake. Guideline for contrast is lightly
touched in http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10-TECHS/#tech-color-contrast and
several other sources.

This also happens on Windows when you specify invert colours in the
accessibility wizard.
