On doing this the crash-report icon appeared in the top-right system tray. I clicked to make a report and again it failed. This time though, it launched firefox on launchpad which directed me to file://ubuntu/+source/vim/....... for some reason it appears to have dropped the http://launchpad.net/. I guess this might be a bug in the crash reporter.
