I finally succeeded in getting the splash!

I installed Startup-manager

Startup-manager shows a screen-resolution of 640*480 ???

The screen-resolution = 1280x1024
and was properly setup in File /etc/usplash.conf

# Usplash configuration file
# These parameters will only apply after running update-initramfs.

xres=1280
yres=1024

So I changed the resolution to 1280x1024
After booting-up : no splash-screen!

I changed the screen-resolution in startup-manager back to 640*480

After booting-up : THE SPLASHSCREEN!

Startup-manager has changed /etc/usplash.conf

# Usplash configuration file

xres=640

yres=480

and menu.list
# defoptions=quiet splash vga=769

title           Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic

uuid            8e12d951-f72e-4d57-88e3-5cd5cf422771

kernel          /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic root=UUID=8e12d951-f72e-
4d57-88e3-5cd5cf422771 ro quiet splash vga=769

initrd          /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-9-generic

quiet

This is very weird! Why does the startup-manager gives my initially a
screen-resolution of 640*480 although
 /etc/usplash.conf has been set up differently (by the installation-program?).

Why does a setting 1280x1024 not work ?

Anw why does a setting 640*480 work after I set a 1280*1024 ?

To my opinion something is wrong in the installer-package, as /etc/usplash.conf
should be set up to 640*480
in stead of 1280*1024 ?
