The kernel panics have been mitigated as far as I can see. I've been using linux-restricted-modules 2.6.27-11.15, including the latest Broadcom blob wl 5.10.27.11, from intrepid-proposed since 12/19. The sporadic flashing caps and number lock flashes (kernel panics) are gone. I'll continue to monitor. Dell XPS m1530 Broadcom 4328.
