I am adding the following note in the hope that it my be of help to the Bug investigators. I installed Ubuntu 8.10 by installing 8.04 First and then upgrading to 8.10 Intrepid because the installation by CD failed. Using the CD, after the preliminary loading of the installation Files, at the start of the Kernel loading, the red 'OUT OF RANGE' window appeared and the installation terminated. With 8.10 Intrepid loaded, I cured the appearance of the Red window by restarting in Safe mode and then, as Root, using Nano to add: HorizSynk 81-101 VertRefresh 60-70 to the 'Section Monitor' of /X11/xorg.conf. The PC is now usable, but a bug remains. Systems>Preference>Screen Resolution window shows only 'Refresh Rate' 0 Hz I regret not having the knowledge to help in the debugging. I hope that next Ubuntu release will be less buggy than 8.10. By the way, why submit us users with the trauma of a new release every six months and not to use the continuous update way as the Linux Kernel does?. Yours, Gaetano Arena
