Hi! I confirm this bug. I use Hardy Heron amd64 version on my laptop and
after a fresh install I updated the system and ended up with a broken
WiFi connection. I could see the hotspot but I was constantly asked for
the shared key. I tried using an external WiFi dongle and that worked.
Everything started to work as normal after I rebooted into the earlier
version of the kernel. I tried the suggestion made above of blacklisting
the r8187 module and that fixed the issue in the new kernel also. I also
grepped for the r8187 module and discovered that it was included into
the new 2.6.24-22 kernel only. I couldn't find it among the modules of
the old 2.6.24-19 kernel.
