I'm not sure what you mean by secure. It is not a supported configuration, but it should be fine for testing purposes and you can downgrade to the Intrepid version later if you wish. It would be ideal if you could test with Jaunty itself, but it's understandable if you cannot. The binary package/s are really what we want to test, not compiling from source.
You should be able to test the Jaunty version of mail-notification in Intrepid by manually installing the debs [1][2], or by using the PPA as noted in bug 251031 [3]. I have nominated the bug for Intrepid SRU. If this bug is the same issue then we can mark this as a duplicate, but if it is not we need to investigate further. Thanks again.
