Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=9.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=jaunty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)"
kernel_2.6.28-3-generic (i386, amd64)

Starting the daily-live-CD launched Dec. 19, 2008 on desktop no volumes
and icons are displayed anyhow.

By using the desktop-menu >>change desktop background<< an empty window
appears. To make the content visible, you must >>minimise<< the window
to the panel and then recover it again to desktop, then the content is
visible. Every "blind" change with a mouse-click must be handled step by
step the same procedure to get at least the >>metacity-desktop<< feature
to work successfully.

After these the the volumes and the installer-icon will be visible and
you can work as known.

It seems to me the compiz-window-manager, which is active by default
("normal features"), will not work correct. Same experience on a normal
installation (up to date) since changes on xserver-xorg-packages occurs
by implementing the updates these week.

Both systems - amd64 as well as i386 - are involved.

** Affects: compiz
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
