I added a more appropriate firefox/mozilla bug report to this launchpad entry: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437366 Which seems to describe not only the exact problem that I've detailed in the png image above, but also they've been looking at possible solutions, and it's had comments from people looking to fix the problem within the last year so there's probably the place to make a comment if you've got one.
