Thanks for the help thus far. The HD has been completely wiped, operating system and all. A recovery disk for this computer is $20 so I don't feel like paying to recover Vista when a much more efficient OS could be installed for free, I just can't seem to figure out how to install it on this particular machine. The same cd worked just fine on my laptop. I tried a few different cds from 2 different downloads. I just downloaded the DVD ISO, Xubuntu, the alternate Xubuntu, as well as Kubuntu and I plan on attempting to boot and install any/all of those as soon as I can. Hopefully one of those images solve the problem.
