I am using Ubuntu Ibex on a desktop with Compiz on 'normal' effects.
There are some serious issues with power management and I am not sure if
this is due to my setup or something inherent in Ubuntu. These issues
may be summarized as under:
1. The system hangs if left on without activity for a period of time. I
do not know how long it takes for this to happen but I usually find this
happens when I return to my desk after about an hour. I have moved the
sliders in the power management section to 'never' for both 'put
computer to sleep' and 'put display to sleep' and this still happens.
The symptoms are that the screen goes blank and various lights on the
keyboard start flashing. The system cannot be revived by attempting to
restart X (ctrl-alt-backspace) or any other way. A full hard reboot is
required.
2. Emerging from suspend results in some part of the system going bust.
This either affects the sound or the networking. I guess this is just
the same problem as other have reported on various laptop configurations
but I thought I should report it occurring on a desktop as well.
