I just ran into this issue (some Japanese PDF's not displaying their text in a legible fashion) again after having forgotten about for a year. The answer is right here in the bug tracker of course, but I don't think we should expect that the average user hunts down bug reports and mailing-lists for the answer to these kind of issues.
