** Summary changed:

- Gimp causes X11 to crash and/or lock
+ Gimp causes X11 to crash and/or lock in ProcCreatePixmap+0x150

** Description changed:

Having problems with Gimp causing X11 to lock or crash to a black
screen. Unable to gain access to the terminal console when this happens.
However, I am able to telnet into the system to do a restart. The
problem is reproducible and typically occurs after using Gimp for 15
minutes or so. The crash seems to happen when doing a lot of cut and
paste operations or performing an undo operation on larger images
(1024x800 or larger). There are no messages in the system log files or
in the Xorg log file to indicate anything happened other than the system
  being rebooted.

  Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
  Gimp 2.4.5
  Nvidia GeForce 2
  Asus A7N8X motherboard / 512Megs
Using default xorg.conf settings provided during installation.
system is up-to-date as of 8-20-2008.
