In Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid with cups 1.3.9-2ubuntu4:
When entering the web admin module and trying to modify printer properties the
web admin module prompts for a username and password as it ought to. However,
when the credentials are passed, instead of letting me update it either prompts
for a username and password again or fails to authenticate the user with a 401
error.
Strangely by looking into the log it appears as if I am sending blank
credentials. I certainly am not, I am trying to authenticate as root.
The only possibly unusual thing about this server is that it also uses an ebox
LDAP user system along with the standard unix authentication.
I have attached the related error log.
