Just to add to Nexus' workaround (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/deskbar- applet/+bug/205018/comments/3) there is a preference in the Firefox 'about:config' called 'browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML' which, when set to true, exports the bookmarks from SQLite to the bookmarks.html file every time you close the browser. By default it's set to 'false'.
