Dear Chris, after some more investigation, I found out, that
1) the problem only occurs when hald is started from within kde4 (not from gnome or xfce), not when it is running on a virtual terminal like tty1. 2) actually the system doesn't freeze, but knotify4 blocks the whole system, even the Magic-SysRq, but after a while the system recovers so far, that I can kill knotify from tty1. With an inccreased nice level of knotify (18) it recovers without killing. 3) it happens only sometimes (I love race conditions ...) so it seems, the bug should be moved from hal to 'kdebase-runtime' regards, tom -- hal foreground/verbose mode crashes system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
