I have done the following quick test (to exclude CUPS and any setup frontend) and it works for me:
foomatic-ppdfile -p HP-DeskJet_952C > x.ppd foomatic-rip --debug --ppd=x.ppd -o PrintoutMode=Draft.Gray < /usr/share/cups/data/testprint.ps > x foomatic-rip --debug --ppd=x.ppd -o PrintoutMode=Draft < /usr/share/cups/data/testprint.ps > y lpr -o raw x lpr -o raw y File x must print in grayscale, file y in color. If this is not the case for you, repeat the appropriate "foomatic-rip" command and attach the files /tmp/foomatic-rip.log and /tmp/foomatic-rip.ps which you get. After the test delete the log files: rm -f /tmp/foomatic-rip.* If all works fine for you in this test, the problem is in gnome-cups- manager. In that case try to configure your printer setting with the web interface of CUPS (http://localhost:631/, use your user name and password when asked for). Please report all your results here. ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- HP DeskJet 952C ignores color/grayscale settings https://launchpad.net/bugs/74064 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
