I also have been experiencing: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed" whenever I tried to print large photographs to either my Deskjet 970Cxi or my Photosmart C6250.
In my case, the problem appears to have been solved by installing the latest PPDs from Intrepid. My Intrepid computers have all been upgrades and the PPDs for my installed printers in /etc/cups/ppd were from either Hardy or Fiesty. These new PPD files show the file version as follows: *FileVersion: "hpijs 2.8.7" The old ones were: *FileVersion: "hpijs 2.8.2" BTW, I have plenty of disk space; the spooler files often exceed 10 gigabytes but printing high density images does work. -- Ghostscript eats all hard drive space and prints errors when printing with 1200 dpi https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
