Just for the record: I have added: blacklist video to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist This works for the listed Ubuntu kernels. But I didn't get this "usplash" thing ...? If I boot the kernel without "splash", there is no splash screen, but the same error. As it seems to be a bug in exactly this module, I'll add a bug report to the kernel bugzilla as soon as possible (need to manage to compile the vanilla kernel.org kernel). Nevertheless, it might be a good idea to add a "no acpi" default kernel for newbie laptop users ...
