It looks like this isn't a Firefox issue. Is this bug about your Ubuntu and trying to log off to switch the machine off? If so then do you have more than 1 icon up on your task- bar/top-panel that looks like an off-switch? If you have a grey one and a red one then it's probably the grey one that actually lets you shutdown - removing the grey one makes the red one all important again. Also you can, of course, open a terminal window from the Applications - Accessories menu and type in shutdown - a now note the now bit at the end is fairly important (if you don't type it then it'll ask you how many minutes you want it to wait before closing). lol, not an elegant answer but hopefully there's something useful in there.
