Someone said that uninstalling firefox and reinstalling an ealier version such as firefox 2.0 got their favourites back. I'm not sure if it works and i don't know how to do that anyway. If you do manage to get your favourites back try 'Organise Bookmarks' and then 'Import and backup' to get the 'Export html' option which saves your bookmarks safely as a tiny file somewhere. Then get the newer firefox and import your bookmarks again.
