I am having the same problem running OO 2.4.1 to a Samba share version 3.028 running Ubuntu 8.04 from my laptop that's running Ubuntu 8.10. I decided to upgrade to OpenOffice 3.0, but the problem has changed a bit. It doesn't even recognize my network shares, I have to type in smb://myserver/myshare/myfile and if I try to insert a picture, OpenOffice just shuts down.
