Seems to be, that it really was fixed only for iwlwifi  module or
something orter.

On my system: Acer 6292, iwl3945, ubuntu 8.10 with all updates
uname -a
Linux neobook 2.6.27-10-generic #1 SMP Fri Nov 21 19:19:18 UTC 2008 x86_64 
GNU/Linux

if wlan is turned on, I can turn it off
but if it was turned on, there is no way to get it on again.
