Press Alt-F2 and run: "gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" Temporarily add the line "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty main universe restricted multiverse", save, and exit. Reload Synaptic and upgrade the LyX package only. Then remove the line you added (make sure to do so) from sources.list. Take caution to only upgrade LyX and LyX related package, not your entire system.
