Same problem with 2.0.4-2ubuntu0.4 (from
http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/) on edgy.  Font replacement is
broken.  Unfortunately, this - together with other bugs in fontconfig -
make openoffice completely useless to edit documents made by people
working on other environments.

For instance, suppose that you have a collegue passing you a document
with the font Palatino.  You will not be able to collaborate with him on
such document because:

Fontconfig thinks that Palatino and Deja Vu sans are just the same thing, so 
Openoffice gives you a completely different font... and
Openoffice does not let you substitute URW Palladio or Georgia for that, 
because font replacement is broken.
