I did a brand new install of Intrepid Ibex and I found the Gnome Terminal's font rendering unfortunately is far from the perfect - just as described above.
I've installed the package msttcorefonts and I'd like to user the font 'Courier New' in the Gnome Terminal. This is the fixed font in my Gnome appearance, but Gnome Terminal render this font very ugly. After use John B.'s .font.config file (and set the 'antialias' false) I see brilliant font rendering, just as I wish in my dreams (see attachment).
