Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager
Update-manager asks that I report this error on Dapper-to-Edgy upgrade (i86), which prevents the desktop from coming up after system restart: Could not install 'xkb-data' failed in buffer_read(fd) Many following X-related packages also failed with "dependency problems" messages, which I presume are caused by the original error. After system restart, X does not start. Using the console, I tried sudo apt-get install --reinstall xkb-data but it fails. The messages include this: Setting up xkb-data (0.8-7ubuntu2) ... dpkg: error processing xkb-data (--configure): failed in buffer_read(fd): md5hash: Input/output error I apologize for not including more, but it's difficult to transfer files from the machine with no browser. Does this mean the xkb-data package is corrupt and thus failing an md5 checksum? ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- xkb-data install fails with md5hash error on Dapper/Edgy upgrade https://launchpad.net/bugs/73863 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
