I am having the same problem on my Apple G4 Quicksilver, however, I can't seem to get the splash screen to work even after recompiling the kernel with riva, the screen just goes dark until gdm starts (it was white before I recompiled the kernel). I have tried reinstalling usplash, but it doesn't seem to be working. Also, only VT 1 works for me, and the resolution is not correct. The other screens are simply blank (black).
