Colin Thanks, I can't now check this because my machine installed the latest nvidia driver(..177..? for higher display resolutions) at the same time, and asked me to reboot. Ever since then the boot sequence fails to complete, I get the correct display resolution(1440 x 900) at the start, enabling me to log in properly, and then it adds the various small 'pictures' but then suddenly the display completely vanishes and I'm left with a small floating window on screen saying 'input not supported'. I'm about to start the whole install from scratch again, unless you can point at somewhere to start looking. brian
