I've managed to correct this problem in Firefox 3.0.4, Ubuntu 8.10 by adding this Add-on called Reliby: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2081 I also use Feed Sidebar that brings better control to Live bookmarks and allows me to adjust in which interval they should be downloaded: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4869
