I have the same problem in intrepid. My sound card is: 04:00.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS
Ctrl+Alt+F6, Ctrl+Alt+F7 workaround does NOT works for me. As Matt Collins says i experiment the same issue with videos. They play veeeery slow. I don't understand that there may be relationship between sound and video.
