Timothy have you tried to use hardy or intrepid? You are referring to relative old reports, the kernel bug report is from 2006! If you have still problems with your chip in combination with hardy or intrepid you should fill a new report with sufficient information.

RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01) Do you have exactly the same lan chip? I don't have any problems with it. I transfer very big files over gigabit ethernet.
