I have same problem on HP 6715b - sometimes (1 from 3 attempts - freeze). I have the official release of Ubuntu 8.10. Previous version 8.04 was correct. It has to be some part in the hardware initialization process. But there is no any next messages about it. Do you know some log file which can be provided for solving this problem? I can attached them for it.
