I applied the patch inside the pulseaudio source package, which is
called pulseaudio_0.9.10-2ubuntu9.diff.gz.  But that didn't compile, so
I fixed a function prototype / definition mismatch, and then it worked.

That said, I can no longer reproduce any differences between the
prepackaged pulseaudio daemon and my own compiled one.

Now the only problems I have occur when I log in.  I always have to do
"killall pulseaudio" and then restart it manually.  (Previously, this
didn't solve the problem; now it does.  I don't know what changed.)  Got
any debugging suggestions?  I know how to use gdb, etc.  (I haven't had
time to spend hours on this though...)
