I reported bug #229620 originally, which got marked as a duplicate of this bug. Unfortunately, Intrepid's kernel still freezes in the same spot, even with the "noapic nolapic" flags on, so I guess it either wasn't a duplicate after all, or the bug is not completely fixed yet.
