The same problem here in Spain with a Vodafone 3G/GPRS card (Option 129 or "Colt").
With a Vodafone SIM it does nothing but network manager applet going in circles trying to connect. (Like auth problem?) Tested with a Simyo SIM card and it works fine and at 3G speed, the only problem is that nm asks for a PIN when connecting but the card has PIN disabled.
