I am also having the same problem with Intrepid. After trying to enable apport using your instructions above, it says that I do not have permission to save the file. Is there a way of overriding this? (sorry, I am new to Ubuntu!). There are no files in the crash directory at the moment.
After downloading a podcast, Rhythmbox stops responding.
