Public bug reported: Binary package hint: exim4
I'm using a smarthost setup, with the following relevant selections in dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config: General type of mail configuration: mail sent by smarthost; no local mail System mail name: katran.rifetech.com Visible mail name: rifetech.com If all works right, this configuration is perfect. Mail gets delivered exactly where it's supposed to go. Unfortunately, if there's an error of any kind, the failure message goes to the wrong place. If user 'atrus' on this machine sends mail to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' (note the '.' at the end of the address, making it invalid), a failure message is sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is bad, because katran.rifetech.com is *NOT* set up for any local mail delivery. I only found this out because I changed that 'system mail name' to be another host name that I can receive mail at, and saw tho mail-failure message delivered there. The "visible mail name" field is a domain at which replies for this system's users should go. In my mind, that's also precisely where mail failure messages should go, and not to the "system mail name". ** Affects: exim4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Exim mail failure messages go to local address, even if no local delivery is available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
