I'm also running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) on a HP Pavilion DV5
(dv5-1075er) and seems I have exactly the same problem that Guilhem
Lavaux does.

Hibernation works but resume from suspend does not. Laptop will suspend
but on resume process the kernel gives errors complaining that the SATA
devices have not woken up and therefore the system becomes unusable as
the file systems are no longer accessible. Hard off is the only
solution.
