with each Ubuntu release, it seems I have a earthquake hitting my system
!! Everything which seemed to be working fine suddenly either stops
working, or just simply disappears.
FireFox refuses to send e-mails, freezes itself, crashes, Opera
completely disappears from the menu list, system freezes many, many
times- I have to end sessions, Totem etc mis behaves, Real player
refuses to play even DVD and the list can go on and on......... Esp the
Firefox problems are innumberable as it freezes so many times, even in
previous release. The version 2.0, on the ubuntu 7.04 if I am not
mistaken, was far stable then todays versions.
Why do we have to give out updates, which will almost destroy system which is
working ?!!
Most of the time I find that with new Ubuntu updates system becomes more
unstable, and suddenly, applications disappear which were working fine before.
Haven't we heard of backward compatibility?
Because of this, unfortunately I am finding myself using more of XP as i
am forced to switch back and forth as ubuntu has become unstable. There
is simply no choice. I thought I had converted since 18 months now, and
am trying to convert more people around me.
If this continues the way it is, then we will have less and less
converts coming to Linux world- and no wonder therefore its still
considered a system for GEEKS !!!
My recommendation is that if a new system is released, leave the older
softwares alone, until the new versions catch up with the basic system.
Dont just dump it and make the new system work with the older software
release. If it ain't broken, dont fix it !! (unless you have superior
solution) It is embarassing to try to show off Ubuntu to friends, and
then things dont work !
