Same hardware AC 97. Broke after upgrade to Ibex from Heron. Problem was solved by manually installing linux-generic package, as my machine was booting with 2.6.25-2-386 kernel after upgrade. Linux-generic installed 2.6.27-7-generic and problem was resolved.
